Research interests
My research primarily focuses on understanding and characterizing the potential for geothermal exploitation of Mesozoic reservoir systems in Germany, with a particular emphasis on identifying and deciphering pre- and post-depositional sedimentary controls on reservoir quality. This includes investigating how facies architecture and depositional environments, in combination with burial history and diagenetic processes acting at both local and regional scales, determine the characteristics of geothermal reservoirs. Addressing these questions requires a multidisciplinary and multi-faceted approach, integrating classical sedimentological analyses of subsurface data with petrophysical, geophysical, and petrological tools.

Currently, I am part of in the WärmeGut project, which aims to standardize and map the suitability and potential for shallow geothermal energy (< 400 m depth) across Germany. In parallel, I work within the DEKAPALATIN project, where my research focuses on characterizing the reservoir quality of Triassic units, particularly the Buntsandstein and Muschelkalk, as well as identifying the potential of shallower, mid-depth reservoirs within the Tertiary infill of the Upper Rhine Graben. Additionally, I am involved in research on the Upper Cretaceous greensand of the Reitbrook Formation in the Northern German Basin, focusing on depositional environment reconstruction, sedimentary controls, and burial evolution.
