Results Potty Parity poll
What is potty parity?
“Potty Parity” describes the unequal distribution of public toilets for men and women and the women and efforts to improve the distribution.
Analysis of poll results
The Potty Parity project (toilet swap) started at the end of March 2024 and the men's/women's toilets were swapped at nine locations and the women's toilets at three locations were converted to toilets for all (single cubicles). A final evaluation survey was conducted at the end of October 2024. All physics students, doctoral students and employees in the Faculty of Physics were invited to take part in the survey. 349 people took part, 47% of whom were men, 30% women, 2% diverse and 21% not specified, or 31% students, 17% doctoral students, 31% employees and 21% not specified. The statements were rated on a scale from 1 (agree) to 3 (neutral) to 5 (disagree). The mean value of these answers is shown in the evaluation. The detailed evaluation of the survey results can be found linked here.
What has changed?
After evaluating the evaluation, in consultation with the Dean's Office and with the approval of the Faculty Council, “WC for All incl. urinal” was set up as a permanent change at three locations A.-1.111, B.01.108 and D.00.103. In addition, two “WC for All” (single cubicles) were set up in G.01.101/102. At all other locations, no statistically substantiated suggestions could be made due to the low response rate, which is why it is left to the institutes to make permanent changes in the form of a toilet exchange or the installation of “WC for All” if they consider this to be useful.FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Why not change all toilets to "WC for All" ?
The regulation is that in a toilet room the sanitary facilities must be available in lockable single cabins, then a toilet room can be used as a "WC for All". Thus all urinals in the physics building would be eliminated. Without construction work, “WC for All” is only possible in the current women’s toilets. However, since the amendment of the implementing regulation of the Lower Saxony Building Code, it is now possible to re-declare existing WC facilities. This is already being implemented at Georg August University “WC for all (with urinal)” and it has been examined whether this is also possible in physics.
