Computer Science Intro Course
The intro course makes it easier to get started in computer science and data science, refreshes important basics and provides orientation before the first semester.
Who the Intro Course Is For
The propaedeutic course is intended for first-year students in the bachelor's degree programmes Applied Computer Science, Applied Data Science and the Two-Subject Bachelor with Computer Science as a subject.
Participation is especially recommended for anyone who did not study computer science at school or has little programming experience.
Orientation Before the First Semester
The computer science intro course usually follows directly after the mathematics propaedeutic course. It is then followed by the student council's O-Phase, during which the schedule for the first semester is prepared, among other things.
Participation and Registration
The computer science intro course usually takes place full-time and in person during the first two weeks of October. The exact date is given in the registration form.
Registration is required for participation. Online participation is not planned, but the learning materials are also provided for self-study.
Contents
The intro course combines subject-specific and methodological skills. Topics from school-level computer science are revisited, extended and aligned with the first semester.
- Algorithms and logical problem solving
- Practical introduction to programming
- Learning and self-organisation during your studies
- Basics of working in the computer labs
Good to Know
No previous knowledge is required. The intro course is especially helpful for students with little experience, but is also suitable as a refresher.
It does not replace the Student Advisory Service, but it provides confidence, makes it easier to start your studies and offers a good opportunity to make your first contacts with fellow students.
