💻

Application-Oriented Systems Development

Courses in Application-Oriented Systems Development are offered by the research groups of the Institute of Computer Science: Research Groups

🧬

Bioinformatics

The Bioinformatics specialisation combines the application area of biology, especially genetics and molecular biology, with the bioinformatics branch of applied computer science. It is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology and Psychology.

Data Science

The Data Science specialisation focuses the programme on the storage, processing, and analysis of data. In addition to general data science topics such as parallel data processing, machine learning, and statistics, students also engage with an application area such as Bioinformatics, Computational Neuroscience, or Digital Humanities. In contrast to those specialisations, Data Science places the data itself at the centre. Domain knowledge without a direct connection to data analysis is not part of the focus.

Digital Humanities

The Digital Humanities specialisation deals with the application of computer-based methods and the systematic use of digital resources in the humanities and social sciences. At present, it focuses on the humanities fields of archaeology and text-based disciplines such as linguistics and literary studies. To study this specialisation at master's level, it is recommended to complete the Two-Subject Bachelor's degree in Computer Science combined with a humanities or social science subject. In order to meet the admission requirements for the master's programme, it is necessary to complete the subject-specific profile and the bachelor's thesis in Computer Science.

Business Information Systems

The Business Information Systems specialisation is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Business and Economics. If you have questions about the courses offered in this specialisation, please contact the coordinator responsible for the specialisation. Please note that in the bachelor's-master's route of Applied Computer Science with the Business Information Systems specialisation, the computer science component is weighted slightly more strongly than the business component. Students who prefer a stronger focus on business studies may be better suited to the separate degree programme offered by the Institute of Information Systems.
