Computational Physics
Computational Physics describes the application of numerical methods in subfields of physics, where algorithms are often adapted or developed specifically for physical problems.
The goals of this specialisation are, on the one hand, to introduce students to the foundations and working methods of experimental and theoretical physics and, on the other hand, to deepen knowledge in a physical subject area as preparation for a bachelor's thesis.
Within the Faculty of Physics, possible focus areas include solid-state and materials physics, physics of complex systems, theoretical biophysics, soft matter theory, statistical physics, high-energy and particle physics, astrophysics, and geophysics.

Ecosystem Informatics
The Ecosystem Informatics specialisation focuses on computer science applications and specialised methods in ecosystem research. It is closely related to the Bioinformatics and Geoinformatics specialisations. The specialisation is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology. Special courses in applied computer science are mainly provided by the Department of Forest Biometry and Informatics.

Medical Informatics
The Medical Informatics specialisation combines the application area of medicine and healthcare with the medical informatics branch of applied computer science. It is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine. Further information can be found on the pages of the Department of Medical Informatics at the University Medical Center.

Neuroinformatics
The Neuroinformatics specialisation deals with topics such as synaptic plasticity and its applications in robot control and computer vision. It is offered in cooperation with the Third Institute of Physics in the Faculty of Physics.
Computer Law
The Computer Law specialisation combines the application area of legal studies with the field of computer law, which deals with legal questions related to computer science. It is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Law.
Business Information Systems
The Business Information Systems specialisation is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Business and Economics. If you have questions about the teaching offered in this specialisation, please contact the coordinator for this specialisation. Please note that in the bachelor's and master's route of Applied Computer Science with the Business Information Systems specialisation, the computer science component is weighted slightly more strongly than the economics component. Students who prefer a stronger focus on economics may instead be interested in the separate degree programme offered by the Institute of Information Systems.
Scientific Computing
The Scientific Computing specialisation combines the application areas of mathematics and physics with the scientific computing branch of applied computer science. It is offered by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science in cooperation with the Faculty of Physics.
