I have a problem or a question. Whom can I contact for advice?
All staff members working in the student advisory service of the Institute of Computer Science are listed here. For questions regarding forms, applications, registration, examination authorisations, and similar matters, please contact the Administration Office. For questions regarding the structure of the degree programme, credits, study plans, or general academic concerns, please contact the student advisory service. You are welcome to attend the regular office hours of our student advisors or make an appointment. For complex issues, we recommend a consultation by appointment. All consultations are confidential. Our student advisors can also help if you have questions or problems such as exam anxiety, difficulties with your thesis or supervisor, discrimination, the duration of your studies, visa issues, and more. They also know other contacts across the Göttingen campus who may be helpful.
Are there any other advisory and information services for students?
Yes. The University of Göttingen and cooperating institutions offer many advisory and information services, such as the central student advisory service, psychological counselling, the Career Service, counselling for students with disabilities, and statistical advice. You can find a list of all services there. If you need further information, please contact our student advisors.
The central student advisory service also offers various events, including for new students, and supports you in developing suitable learning strategies.
In addition to individual counselling and coaching, psychological counselling also offers group counselling and courses such as a coaching group for international MSc and PhD students.

What should I do if I am pregnant?
There is a wide range of support for pregnant students. Please contact our student advisor Dr Anne-Kathrin Schultz for further advice and guidance on the next steps.
I have experienced discrimination at the University. How can I get help?
The Anti-Discrimination Advisory Service for Students offers a safe space to talk about your own or observed experiences of discrimination. It is intended for students who have experienced discrimination, especially because of attributed characteristics such as appearance, skin colour, origin, name, language, or religion. The goal of the counselling is to empower the person seeking advice and support them in identifying possible next steps. Every request is confidential. The needs of the person seeking advice are at the centre of the counselling process.
I am a trans* student. Which counseling and support does the University offer?
The peer-to-peer counselling service for trans* students at the University of Göttingen ended in December 2019. The website still provides information on gender diversity and links to counselling services.

Where do I find a study plan?
The degree programmes at the Institute of Computer Science offer many ways to personalise your studies. There is therefore no single default study plan for all students. Depending on your interests and prior knowledge, you need to create your own study plan and choose from various courses. Several criteria must of course be fulfilled. These are described in the module catalogue and will also be explained in the introductory lecture. Registered students should make an appointment for individual counselling if they need help with their study plan.
