Charles University Prague

Outgoing über Erasmus+
(S/F/D; Englischsprachiges Lehrangebot, Mindestsprachniveau: Englisch B2, Tschechisch B2)

The Protestant Theological Faculty was founded in 1919 after the end of World War I when full religious freedom was established in the new Czechoslovak state and the restrictions on Protestants were lifted. Having been reopened in 1949 after the faculty was closed during German occupation in World War 2, the Communist state decided to split the Faculty in two separate schools: The Hus Theological Faculty for students from the Hussite Church and the Comenius Protestant Theological Church for students from the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, which is a united church of the Czech Lutherans and Reformed.

In 1990, the Comenius Faculty was renamed to Protestant Theological Faculty and was integrated into the Charles University in Prague. It is a small but vibrant academic community, where students and professors work closely together. The faculty offers a critical and reflective approach to theology, exploring Christianity in its historical and contemporary contexts with a Reformed perspective and ecumenical openness.

Besides preparing students for ministry in the church, the faculty also welcomes everyone who is interested in studying theology or engaging with questions of faith, society, and human relationships. The teaching is closely connected with ongoing research, ensuring a dynamic and inspiring learning environment.

University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice

Outgoing über Erasmus+
(S/F/D; Englisch- und Tschechischsprachiges Lehrangebot, Mindestsprachniveau: Englisch B1, Tschechisch B1)

Founded in 1991 as part of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, the Faculty of Theology is still fairly young compared to other theological faculties in Europe and the world, but it draws from the cultural and educational traditions of theological and philosophical studies in the town which started in the early 19th century, but were surpressed during the Communist regime.

The Faculty and its education is closely connected with the Diocese of České Budějovice. This is shown by the Facultys statute, according to which the bishop of České Budějovice presides the Faculty of Theology.

The Faculty of Theology offers research and teaching in the fields of theology and philosophy as well as in social work and education with special emphasis on Christian ethics and social values.
